I use olympic-sized plates (with a 2" hole) but chose this tree with standard 1" posts because it is easier to hang the plates and lift them off with the smaller posts. Gravity holds them on just fine because the posts are all inclined. The tree does a great job with as small a footprint as possible.
I really like the solid welding of the posts, which can hold as much weight as you can fit on them without bending. Other plate racks require you to attach the posts to the tree with bolts, which is a much less sturdy design.
Others mention the tree bending slightly. There is a little bit of flex in the vertical pieces when you are loading a lot of weight on it. But this is not a reason to be concerned because the tree will hold the weight just fine and the rack stays completely stable. I actually prefer the little bit of flex since it acts like a shock absorber when you are slamming on the bigger plates. I keep over 400 lbs on mine.
There is a cup holder on the top that I think is a great touch. I'm always looking for somewhere to set my water bottle in the weight room. Also, it came with eight standard sized collar clamps. I don't know why they include these. I guess you could add a clamp to each post after the weights are on but you don't need them at all because of gravity and the angle of the posts. If you use standard sized weight bars, you might find the extra clamps useful for your bars.
I love this rack. I have a couple of others but wish I had bought more of these instead.
Works good, assembly is a snap - Adam - Seattle, WA
There's not too much to review here. It's constructed sturdily enough and assembles quickly. There's 8 pieces if I remember correctly. It all goes together with large nuts and bolts. Held all the weight I piled on to it, and I must say that not having all the plates lying all over the place really made a nice impact on the look of my home gym. Price was right, product arrived in a timely fashion, so I'd recommend it to anyone. Only reason I didn't 5/5 it is because it could have used thicker gauge steel, but really it works just fine as is.
weight tree - A. Kant - South Orange, NJ
I just recently baught this weight tree since i had a weight bench and I needed a place to put the 400 lbs. besides the floor. The the weight tree does hold that much weight and could hold more, the only thing I do not like is that it does bend in a little, when you put the max weight on a slot. But it does its job!
